Atlin Landfill

The landfill is located on the Atlin highway directly across from Como Lake.  When entering the landfill please STOP near the entrance to the baling/recycling area and wait until other landfill users have finished dropping off their garbage and recycling in order to maintain Covid-19 safe distancing.

Hours of Operation: Winter hours starting November 6th 2022
     2022          Sunday - Monday 11:00 - 4:00 pm
                       Closed all BC statutory holidays.

Recycling:
     The ACID has endeavored to incorporate recycling in order to extend the life of the landfill and protect the environment.
  • Plastics, cardboard, paper, tin, metals, tires, batteries, used oil and white goods are all accepted as recyclables.  Brush and unpainted used wood are accepted for burning.
  • Please ask the attendant where to place dog & cat waste
  • The Share Shed is closed at present.

USED OIL PROCEDURE:
The landfill is receiving used oil.
Acceptable used oil includes:
  • Petroleum-derived or synthetic oils
  • Crankcase, engine and gear oils
  • Hydraulic, transmission and heat transfer fluids
         Fluids used for lubricating purposes in machinery or equipment.
         Date, quantity of oil & type, plus the name and address of deliverer will be recorded by the attendant. 
         This service is restricted to residents only. and no more than 5 gallons (23 litres) at a time are accepted without written
         permission by the ACID.
        The attendant will pour the oil into the tank, while the deliverer watches. 
        Procedure when tank contamination occurs:

             If when pouring the oil into the tank the attendant realizes that the bottom part of the container (anything under the
             surface oil) is not acceptable pouring oil into the tank must stop.  If, however, it is too late and the tank is contaminated
            then a written “Incident" report will be submitted by the attendant to the ACID.


RECYCLING - PLASTIC / TIN / Cardboard / Paper
  • PLASTICS: GOOD NEWS!  Please note that plastics NO LONGER need to be sorted!  All can go in the same bag.
  • TIN: Wash and remove labels.
  • CARDBOARD: Corrugated cardboard is now recycled and goes into the corrugated cardboard bag/pile.
  • Box Board: This is cardboard us
    PAPER all paper goes into the one bag.
    Remember recycling around the house can be easy with just a bit of organization.



    TIRES
    When you take old tires to the landfill please stack the tires at the site in the appropriate area.  As the tires are picked up for recycling, they need to be counted for the contractor who is doing the pickup in order for him to know how many or which trucks he needs to bring when hauling them away. If the tires are too heavy for you to stack, please ask the attendant to help you.

    Definition of Grubbing Material:  Grubbing Material means material removed during excavation including, without
      limitation, roots, stumps, embedded logs, broken branches and debris.  Definition from Bylaw #52

    When taking Toll Fee items into the Landfill the attendant will request your name and mailing address, enter the item(s) you wish to unload and will request your signature on the Toll Fee sheet.  You will then be invoiced by the Atlin Community Improvement District for these items.
